Course content
ESD protection circuits, integrated sensors, switched-capacitance circuits, low-power analog to digital converters, radio receievers, voltage references, current references, linear regulators, DC/DC regulators, phase locked loops, frequency locked loops, delay locked loops, power-on-reset circuits. Use of professional tools for analog/digital design of integrated circuits.
Learning outcome
The course aims to provide a thorough understanding of design of advanced integrated circuits in CMOS, and an overview of the circuits needed to make a System-On-Chip.
Knowledge:
- in-depth understanding of the theoretical framework for design of advanced analog integrated circuits, in-depth understanding of the circuit components in advanced integrated circuits, and their design detailed knowledge and experience of all tools necessary to design advanced integrated circuits
Skills:
- combine earlier acquired knowledge and skills in physics, math and electronics together with new theory to solve real world challenges with advanced integrated circuits
- use software tools for design of advanced integrated circuits
- design advanced integrated circuits.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures. Assignments, both theoretical and computer based. The course may be held in English.
Further on evaluation
Evaluation is based on project report and final written exam. The project involves design of an advanced integrated circuit module and a report describing the design. The final written exam counts for 55% and individual project report 45%. The evaluation is given as a grade letter. If there is a re-sit examination in August, the examination form may be changed from written to oral. If the exam is to be repeated, the whole course needs to be taken.
Recommended previous knowledge
Design of integrated circuits, analog CMOS design, microwave techniques.
