Course content

History of plastics and composites. Basic polymer chemistry. Fiber and core materials. Mechanical properties of plastic and composite materials. Industrial use of plastic and composite. Various manufacturing processes for plastic and composite products.

Learning outcome

Knowledge Students will: -Demonstrate broad knowledge and understanding of polymeric materials and the use of reinforcements in these (fiber and core materials) -Explain monomers, polymers and plastics. -Explain the term glass conversion temperature (Tg) and explain the kinetic and thermodynamic theories for Tg. -Explain simple models the influence of mixing two materials (rule of mixture) -can sum up the most common polymers and some applications for these Skills The student should be able to: -Could carry out building a simple structure in the laboratory Composite competence Students should: -Describe the most common production processes for polymeric components -Account for the historical development of plastics and composites -To know the modern development features of plastic and composite applications

Learning methods and activities

Excursions, lectures, group work, laboratory exercises, online learning. Complementary information: Mandatory work requirements. Completion of 1 laboratory exercises and submission of 1 lab reports. In case of less than 6 students registered, the course will take place as a self-study with guidance.
