Course content
The course focuses on the leader role and leading digital transformation. This includes firstly central leadership principles and theories, and secondly more specifically team leadership, virtual leadership, and leading hybrid work. IT leadership and new digital leader roles are also covered in the course. The course covers how leaders can facilitate digital transformation through relationships, collaboration, culture, structure and networks.
Learning outcome
After completing the course, the following overall learning outcomes must be achieved:
Knowledge
Students must:
- Have knowledge of the role of leaders in digitalisation and digital transformation
- Have knowledge of leading teams in general and virtual teams in specific
- Have knowledge of more distributed leadership approaches such as shared leadership
- Have knowledge of leading hybrid work as a part of digital transformation
- Have knowledge of IT leadership and new digital leader roles
- Have knowledge of how to facilitate communication and collaboration between people and people with different professional backgrounds in digital transformation.
- Have knowledge of interdisciplinary and cross-cultural communication and be able to facilitate good communication and interaction between different disciplines.
- Be able to apply knowledge to find out how a leader should act as a facilitator, in processes of digital transformation through relations, culture, structure and networks.
- Have knowledge of how leaders can contribute with respect to the psychosocial working environment and social sustainability in the workplace in digital transformation.
Skills
Students must:
- Be able to apply specialist knowledge to practice a facilitating leadership style in a company that work with digitalisation and digital transformation.
- Be able to apply specialist knowledge to achieve good communication and collaboration between different disciplines in the organization.
- Be able to apply specialist knowledge to implement necessary changes and adjustments in the companies.
General competence
Students must:
- Be able to convey subject matter about leadership concepts that contributes to companies achieving their goals of digital transformation in an inspiring, motivating and cost-effective way.
Learning methods and activities
Student-active interaction learning with utilization of relevant interaction technology, as well as lectures.

REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENT WORK (compulsory assignment): Participation in a minimum of 75% of the learning activities. The activities are announced at the start of the course. In special cases where 75% participation is not satisfied, the student can enter into an agreement with the course coordinator (emneansvarlig) about alternative learning activities.
ASSESSMENT: Essay that counts 100% of the total grade. This is written in groups of up to 3 people. All aids allowed.
Re-sit exam: March. If the students have a re-sit exam, new tasks will be defined. Re-sit exam can be changed to an oral exam.

Recommended previous knowledge
TDMA4004, TDMA4005, TDMA4007 and TDMA4009.
Required previous knowledge
The course is reserved for students admitted to the Master's Degree Program in Digital Transformation.
