Course content
Theories and terminology for analyses in traffic management, traffic safety and transport demand.
Introduction to transport demand calculations, including all modes and purposes.
Calculations and analyses of traffic management and traffic safety in the road system.
This is a basic course on which following road and transport related courses build.
Learning outcome
Knowledge
The students should know:
- Four step method for transport demand model
- Traffic flow theory
- Principles of traffic management, including signal controls
- Traffic safety and risk connected with road transport
- Extent reasons and impacts of traffic accidents
Skills
The students would be able to:
- Carry out basic transport demand calculation
- Carry out capacity calculations for traffic on road stretches and intersection
- Create phase plans in signal controlled intersections
- Analyze accident places and choice of measures to increase traffic safety
General competence
The students can:
- Use spreadsheet (Excel)
- Interpret relevant information from different data sources and relevant analyses
- Present and document analyses and evaluations in a clear and structured way

Obligatory assignments must be approved in order to attend the exam. Written exam accounts for 100% of the grade. Written exam may be changed into oral in case of a re-sit exam.
