Course content

Traditional timberframe buildings, introduction to background, historical development and regional building traditions. The topic uses existing buildings as a template where both practical and theoretical angles will be discussed to separate different regional building traditions.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

The canditate has knowledge of traditional timber frame buildings structural design.

Skill

The candidate can analyse and estimate damage and causes in traditional timber frame buildings.

General competence

The candidate can document and describe structural design in timber frames

The candidate can describe the state of a timber frame building and suggest appropriate measures.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, practical timber work, individual- and group tutoring, excursions, presentations.

  • Exercise with written report
  • Fieldwork with written report

Further on evaluation

In order to start exams all obligatory activities must be completed.

Home exams with written report

In the case of failure or absence due to illness, a new exam date must be agreed upon by course leader.
