About the course

Course content

The subject will provide perspectives on entrepreneurship in traditional building trades and the need for interaction for the professional practice. What are the main challenges as practitioners of traditional building trades?

As a traditional builder, you have to interact with several professional groups who have different backgrounds, levels of knowledge and attitudes towards traditional buildings and restoration. The customer often does not know the traditional professional context, and therefore chooses based on price and not quality.

Which strategies can win out in tenders with cost calculation, condition analysis and assessment? As a traditional craftsman, you will need to be able to give the customer an introduction to what traditional crafts are and to guide the customer in financing arrangements in the field, therefore seeing the value of prioritizing traditional solutions, both culturally and financially.

Many companies in the field are sole proprietorships or small businesses that have different prerequisites for success compared to large construction companies. How to win with your production idea?

The subject includes a placement in a relevant company/administrative institution where you present what candidates from traditional building trades can contribute. Based on the observations during the hospitalization period, reflections on organisation, success criteria and most important challenges are discussed.

What are good modes of operation? How can you create a sustainable framework for traditional professional practice in today's society?
