Course content
This course is for students writing their specialization project and their master thesis withing building materials, building physics or fire. The course comprises advanced subjects within the areas of building physics, energy use, material technology and environmental aspects. A focus will be put upon solutions and buildings for the future. Topics included are: future risks and possibilities (climate change etc), new building concepts (passive houses, Zero Energy Building, Zero Emission Building, Plus House etc), advanced and innovative materials, systems and building envelopes, including possibilities for harvesting renewable energy on-site.
Learning outcome
Knowledge:The aim of the course is to use knowlegde from previous courses/studies in designing buildings with high environmental ambitions, with a special focus on building physics, energy use and material technology. They should gain knowledge on the process on how to choose the most suitable materials, constructions, technical systems and solutions for the upcoming high performance buildings. Skills:The students shall be able to choose and use the appropriate tools for simulation or analysis of various important aspects such as energy analysis, indoor climate, moisture, daylight and environmental aspects. General competence:The students shall learn to read scientific articles, and thereby orientate themselves regarding the relevant scientific front. They shall gain experience in the design process where all the various choices influence on each other, making the design an iterative process. They shall learn use various tools to present the results of the design process.
Learning methods and activities
The teaching will be given as seminars, workshops and/or supervised self-study. The lectures and/or workshops are given in English when students who do not speak Norwegian follow the course.
Further on evaluation
The course assessment includes a final oral exam (51%) and a work/term project assignment (49%). The results for the parts are assigned a letter grade. Both parts of the assessment requires a passing grade in order to be awarded a passing grade for the course. The term project assignment will be conducted as a group work. For a re-take of an examination, all assessments during the course must be re-taken.
Recommended previous knowledge
