Course content

The course cover construction projects as production systems bases on theory and tools from Lean Construction, a production management-based approach to project delivery.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

The candidate

  • know the origins of Lean Production and Lean Construction and what the concepts entail
  • has knowledge of value theory and what provides value for different stakeholders in construction projects
  • understands projects as value delivery systems and principles for optimizing them
  • understands central production, team and communication theories and can apply them to explain construction projects as a production system
  • understand lean principles and concepts for making good decisions
  • understands projects as value delivery systems and principles for optimizing them
  • is familiar with common measures within lean construction measures to facilitate collaboration in construction projects
  • know different approaches to facilitate better construction site logistics
  • know various lean methods for improving production system
  • understands the key principles of project implementation using Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and Target Value Delivery (TVD)

  • can analyze what provides value for a stakeholder
  • can use the lean methods Last Planner System and rate planning for progress planning and control.
  • can conduct decision analysis using the Choosing by Advantages (CBA) methodology
  • can create A3 reports

The assessment is a portfolio consisting of individual and group assignments submitted throughout the semester.

In order to take the final assessment in the course, you must complete the compulsory assignments consisting of four reflection notes.

Re-sit of the assessment is only available in the semester the course is taught.
