Course content
The course addresses key issues related to digitalization and social change,and provides analytical tools to think critically through the significance of digital media for social organization. Digital processes intervene in all aspects of social life and social organization, from identity formation and intimate relationships to macro phenomena such as economics, politics and social divisions. Therefore, issues related to digitalization has become a part of most of the sociological subject areas, but often without having tools to reflect systematically concerning the relationship between the technological/material and the social. In this course the students will be able to do this. The course will introduce the students to new and current research contributions and address current issues and debates related to technology development.
Learning outcome
Knowledge - The student shall: - gain knowledge about international theory development in the field of digitalization and social change. Skills - The student shall demonstrate the ability to: - treat one of the themes which was discussed in instruction in an independent empirical analytical manner at an internationally high level.
Learning methods and activities
The program is based on a combination of lectures, field trips and seminars.
If few students attend the course in the first two weeeks of teaching, the course will be given as an individual study course with supervision. Please contact the departement for further information.
