Course content

- Introduction to quality management concepts, the role of quality in production and services

- Core principles of quality: customers, employees and processes

- ISO standards and statistical process control (SPC)

- Continuous Improvement and SIX Sigma

- Performance Measurement and usage of data

Learning outcome

By passing the course the student should have achieved following learning outcomes:

Knowledge of:

- the theory of Total Quality Management,

- how to analyze quality in a product/service and the manufacturing process,

- how to improve quality of a product/service/process,

- the relationship between customer needs and quality in the products,

- how businesses are organized and managed to deliver quality to the customer.

Skills:

Be able to identify the connection between customer needs and quality.

Could identify quality improvements for a product/service.

Explain the relationship between the organization's structure and the organization's goals/strategy.

Knowledge of ISO standards and toolbox in quality management.

General competence:

Understand, apply and improve quality management systems.

Have a good understanding of how to work together in teams to reach common goals.

Knowledge of the quality management system and how this work together with other parts of the organization.

Learning methods and activities

The learning style in the course has student active learning in focus. In addition to the syllabus, learning resources in Blackboard are important parts of the course. A "flipped classroom scheme" gives the student the opportunity to immerse himself in the subject at his own pace ahead of seminars where the subject matter is worked on together with fellow students and subject teachers. Seminars can have company visits and guest speakers. The seminars will be streamed live and can be watched in Panopto any time. Off-campus students do not participate as such in any of these activities, observation only. Some online meetings will be arranged during the semester for dialog.

In addition, the students will work on a compulsory assignment.

Off campus students can work and deliver assignment in groups or individually.

The course is taught mainly in Norwegian, compulsory submission and exam is in Norwegian.

Off campus exam, 6 hours, A-F, Inspera, individual.

In terms of a postponed examination (re-sit examination), the compulsory assessment must be passed, and a new home examination must be completed.
