Course content

This course consists of the master’s thesis. Under supervision, students will design and complete a research project documented through a written master’s thesis. The topic of the thesis is decided by the student in consultation with the supervisor. The master’s thesis can be individual work or up to two students can collaborate on a joint master’s project. In such cases the students must clarify the nature of their collaboration, including the distribution of work and responsibility in a process document/reflection text that should accompany the thesis.

Learning outcome

The candidate can

  • work methodologically and systematically with a problem statement within the relevant subject area
  • plan and carry out an independent research and development project according to scientific and ethical principles in research
  • discuss and convey knowledge about their own research area

Learning methods and activities

A seminar series will support the work with the master’s thesis methodologically, including a writing seminar. The course work consists of individual work or work produced by two students together, as well as supervision. Each student must sign a master’s agreement about the execution of the thesis. The agreement confirms that the topic of the master’s thesis has been approved and that the parties are familiar with and have accepted the current guidelines for its implementation and execution.

Compulsory assignments

  • Presentation of Master's thesis at student conference

Further on evaluation

Supervision and presentation of the work on the master’s thesis at a student conference are obligatory activities that must be approved before the student can submit the thesis.
