Course content

The subject contributes to insight into the subject's core elements: art and design processes, cultural understanding, craft skills and visual communication, where the elements are linked to subject didactic reflection. The student must work with practical creative processes in order to become a good supervisor for the students, and be able to use different forms of assessment that contribute to the students' learning. The course will convey and engage the students in scientific working methods. Exploratory learning processes should promote students' independence, analytical skills and critical reflection.

Throughout the course, the focus is on developing the students' skills they need to be able to plan, carry out and assess the teaching of arts and crafts at grades 5-10. They become qualified to work from the current curriculum and governing documents and develop the subject for the future. Digital developments have changed and expanded the content of arts and crafts. The students will develop knowledge of how digital tools and resources can help to achieve competence goals in the subject and safeguard the five basic skills. The subject therefore emphasizes developing the students' own basic digital skills based on the nature of the subject.

The teaching is close to practice, future-oriented and in close collaboration with the field of practice.

The students gain experience in how you can use and adapt different teaching methods, methods, activities and technology to ensure inclusive practice where the teaching facilitates equal opportunities for learning and development.

As a contribution of experience to adopting the curriculum for arts and crafts in Kunnskapsløftet 2020, the academic and didactic themes in the study will be continuously related to the new curriculum. Several of the work requirements in the study will be explicitly linked to such a link.

Subject 1 consists of three areas.

Art. The area of ​​art emphasizes work with pictures and sculpture. Image is the exploration of image as a visual, aesthetic and communicative expression. Emphasis is placed on practical work with two-dimensional form and digital image media. Form, colour, composition and symbol treatment are central themes. Sculpture includes exploring and working with sculpture as an aesthetic, visual, tactile and communicative expression, both through different types of sculpture, installation and landscape art.

Art and formal culture. The area of ​​art and formal culture shines a spotlight on cultural understanding, with an emphasis on Norwegian, Sami and international art from neoclassicism to the present day. The area provides a basis for planning teaching, experience and the development of knowledge and awareness of the form expressions of different periods and cultures. Through the exploration of various cultural expressions, one can increase awareness of democracy and citizenship, and see oneself and others in a historical and cultural context.

Subject didactics. The area of ​​subject didactics is an integral part of the work in the subject and deals with organized learning in arts and crafts, the subject's historical development, relevance and legitimation as a general education subject in schools. Own experiences in the subject should develop the students into good supervisors for the students in their creative processes and facilitate knowledge in learning and assessment forms that promote the students' professional development and life mastery.

• have knowledge of children's two- and three-dimensional forms of expression with associated theories about aesthetic learning processes, experience, play and creativity
• has knowledge of current rules on copyright and privacy when using sources, images and other resources for teaching have knowledge of how the aesthetic dimension can be included in interdisciplinary contexts
• has knowledge of basic skills in the subject in primary school with a focus on image and sculpture

Skills

The student

• can work purposefully with idea development, sketching process, documentation and assessment of own and others' creative processes
• can experiment with and use key materials, tools, means and techniques in work with images and sculpture can work with images, photos and text using digital tools

• can use pictures and sculptures in the local environment as a source of experience and acquisition of knowledge as a starting point for own work and as a resource for student assignments

• can plan and carry out teaching in photography and sculpture, and arrange for adapted training for all pupils
• can carry out learning-oriented assessment and guidance in the areas of image and sculpture

General competence

The student

• can explain how creative work with materials challenges the senses, engages emotions, requires concentration and activates the body
• can utilize variations in visual expression in visual arts and sculpture as a starting point for adapted training and academic discussion
• can use digital learning arenas for obtaining and disseminating subject matter related to image and sculpture
• can invite other subjects to practical, theoretical and didactic collaboration and generate interdisciplinary and scientifically exploratory forms of work and understanding

Learning methods and activities

The course is organized as a collection and online course. The course has three compulsory sessions over three days. The study involves both practical work in workshops, joint lectures, teaching in seminar form, and work in small groups and presentations. Independent work, professional development work in one's own practice, knowledge sharing in one's own collegium, as well as didactic reflection and communication on a digital learning platform are expected between the sessions. Different work requirements are attached to the periods between the gatherings. During the sessions, the students will be encouraged to use their practical experiences as a starting point for new learning and new insights.

Mandatory work requirements:

• An individual practical-aesthetic assignment within an agreed theme to be presented in the form of an exhibition with oral presentation
• An individual assignment in subject didactics and art and form culture related to image or sculpture

Mandatory work requirements are assessed with approved/not approved.

The following activities have compulsory attendance:

• Participation in 3 meetings over 3 days
• Up to 2 excursions. In the event of absence from an excursion, compensatory work will be given.

Assessment exam:

• Part 1. Individual digital exhibition consisting of creative works from the area of ​​art: image and sculpture with didactic reflections in a log.
• Part 2. An individual written assignment in subject didactics and art and formal culture related to image and / or sculpture, which has been processed following guidance on a draft delivered as a mandatory work requirement.

Part 1 and part 2 are assessed as a whole.
