About the course
Course content
The course provides insight into children and young people's experience of being involved and significant in their own education, and understanding of the teacher's role in exclusion and inclusion mechanisms, prevention of exclusion and development of the school as a democratic social institution.
The course will promote insight into the lives of children and young people. Understanding children's categorization, perceptions of hierarchy and difference are important to facilitate community and belonging in school. Furthermore, work with children's life worlds will form the basis for understanding important dimensions in children's lives, such as social inequality, gender, sexuality, functional variation and ethnicity. The course also sheds light on children and young people's own practices for recognition and appreciation, and learning in a digitalised and saturated information society.
The course promotes an understanding of educational policy and institutional guidelines and practices that are important for inclusion and exclusion processes in schools. Here, politics and practice that the students themselves have experience with will form the basis for exploring educational policy and inclusion.
