Course content

The subject shines a spotlight on issues that are important to familiarize yourself with, work with and reflect on when you as a teacher are to realize LK20's aim of working with Sami themes in the classroom. This subject offers an interdisciplinary perspective and an in-depth study that meets the requirements of LK20's overall part as well as the individual subject's competence goals related to Sami themes.

The subject provides an increased knowledge base on indigenous themes related to, among other things, Sami history, politics, language, culture and identity, and didactic approaches to these topics in the classroom.

The following topics are covered during the course:

• Overall part and subject-specific competence targets on indigenous peoples in LK20. Implicit and explicit competence targets, opportunities for interdisciplinary programmes.

• Theoretical perspectives on how to teach indigenous subjects in the classroom in a good way.

• Basic knowledge of historical and political conditions, Sami identity, Sami language, Sami diversity and Sami literature.

• Sami pedagogy, inclusive pedagogy and activities that promote dialogue.

• Subject-specific schemes associated with interpretation of the curriculum.

• Development of own research-based activities for use in the classroom and for dissemination in other contexts.

Learning outcome

A student who has completed the course is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge:

• Has basic knowledge of Sami politics, history, culture, literature and language.

• Has basic knowledge of Sami pedagogy and inclusive pedagogy.

• Has developed own awareness of indigenous issues.

• Has insight into school political matters that are important for Sami history, culture and language in school and can see these in relation to their own school.

Skills:

  • Can understand and interpret the content on indigenous peoples in the curriculum.
  • Can analyze and relate critically to teaching aids.
  • Can develop suitable teaching aids and activities for the grade levels the student works with based on theory and knowledge of Sami relations and inclusive pedagogy.
  • Can use principles from Sami and inclusive pedagogy actively in planning own teaching.
  • Can critically analyze representations of Sami history, culture and language.

General Skills:

• Can assess own practice and reflect on own learning and practice in relation to basic ethical values ​​and the school's responsibility for children and young people's personal growth.

• Can convey relevant subject matter and communicate in a way that is adapted to relevant age groups. • Can participate in and facilitate developing work related to teaching about indigenous subjects in own workplace.

Learning methods and activities

The course is online. Asynchronous lectures are published, followed by group work. Office hours and guidance with different teachers are offered throughout the semester. Students are expected to collaborate with each other throughout the semester.

Portfolio exam. Two texts are included in the portfolio. These texts are developed throughout the semester. Grade Pass/Fail.
