Course content
Principles of medical imaging technologies, and their clinical applications with indications, risk factors, and ethical challenges. Technical strengths and weaknesses of different modalities, and their strengths and weaknesses for the presentation of anatomy and pathology.
Learning outcome
A candidate who has completed the course should have the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge:
- Has broad knowledge of principles for various medical imaging technologies such as MRI, CT, PET, and Ultrasound
- Has broad knowledge of clinical benefit, indications, risk factors, and ethical challenges when using medical imaging technologies
- Has broad knowledge of the technical strengths and weaknesses of medical imaging technologies
- Has broad knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of medical imaging technologies for the assessment of anatomy and pathology
Skills:
- Can evaluate indications, risk factors, ethical challenges, and technical strengths and weaknesses for clinical application of various medical imaging technologies
General competence:
- Has insight into the mechanisms of equipment used in medical imaging examinations
- Has insight into the clinical utility of various medical imaging technologies
- Can discuss key technical, clinical and ethical issues in a professional setting and in interdisciplinary teams
- Can discuss and has insight into strategies for the sustainable use of medical imaging
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and assignments for groups through e-learning platform. One physical gathering will be organized in Trondheim over 2-4 days in the autumn semester, with introductory lectures and group work. It is compulsory to have 4 approved assignments. All resources for learning will be made available through the e-learning platform.

Students must submit four mandatory work requirements that must be approved before they can take the exam.
