Course content

This course engages the student in learning and applying essential distinctions relevant to the experience of helping within organisational settings. The identification of more specialized knowledge and expertise suitable for coaching and leadership will enable the student to successfully meet relevant demands of the workforce. Central to this course is the process of developing capacities for our growth as human beings and our ability to help facilitate this growth in others.
Course pedagogy will include readings, classroom dialogue and lecture to enhance self-awareness as a tool for learning and developing advanced skills. The course will also apply this learning through practice and facilitate knowledge integration through reflection.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures 6 days (each 7 hours), plus 1 day class project presentation.

Class project involves videotaping a client coaching session, reviewing and editing this video, and presenting it and learnings from the project in class. This must be completed in order to hand in the essay. Other compulsory activity: Participation in 80% of the teaching program.

Form of assessment: Portfolio. Students will prepare a portfolio where the contributions should have a total of approximately 16 pages (A4, line spacing 1.5, Times New Roman 12 points).

Required previous knowledge

As for admission to the master's programme in counselling, master's programme in adult learning, master's programme in education or master's programme in psychology, or similar.
