Course content
The aim of the topic is to: Give students advanced knowledge of the most important theories of personality with an emphasis on applied usefulness in clinical practice.
The course based on applied and clinical knowledge obtained in the courses personality psychology 1 and 2 and covers the applied and clinical meaning of personality psychology. Syllabus and lectures covers main theories within the topic and their clinical application (personality trait theories, psychodynamic-, cognitive- and humanistic/existential theories). Different concepts and empirical data from personality psychology will be discussed, emphasizing the application of this knowledge in clinical practice. The border between normal functioning and pathology will be fronted. Practical application of different tests, are compulsory activity. The development of independent reflection within topic is also emphasized.
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
- The student has thorough knowledge about application and clinical understanding of personality psychology, with an emphasis on personality trait-, psychodynamic-, cognitive- and humanistic/existential theories.
- The student has thorough knowledge about the border between normal functioning and pathology.
Skills:
- The student can apply and interpret personality tests in a clinical context.
General competence:
- The student has developed independent reflection.
- The student is able to communicate and discuss main theories, problems and the relevance of personality psychology in connection with clinical problems.
Learning methods and activities
