Course content
The graduate thesis is in the form of a scientific dissertation. The thesis can report on empirical research, theoretical work, or innovation developments. The work should be based on psychological theory and methodology and adhere to common guidelines of research ethics. It is possible for up to three students to write a joint thesis.
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
The student has thorough knowledge of the topic being addressed in the dissertation.
The student knows the criteria for good scientific practice and academic writing.
Skills:
The student can analyze and critically assess scientific literature and use these in scientific discussion.
The student can make independent and well-informed decisions regarding the use of methodological approaches, including qualitative and/or quantitative methods.
With guidance, the student can plan, conduct, and disseminate results from a research project, in accordance with research ethical guidelines.
General competence:
The student can apply relevant scientific literature in theoretical, empirical and practical contexts, and use their research- and literature competence to stay up to date.
The student can critically analyze and disseminate research and is familiar with the terminology of psychology.
Learning methods and activities
Individual tutorial guidance 25 hours
The dissertation must be written in English, Norwegian, or another Scandinavian language.
Further on evaluation
If the thesis is evaluated as F the student may re-submit a revised thesis one more time. Resubmission is not allowed if a passing grade (E or better) is received.
