About the course

Course content

The course is an introductory course to work and organisational psychology. The students will learn about management, personnel selection and recruitment, occupational health, and psychosocial work environment, using both individual and systemic approaches.

After completion of the course, the student will have knowledge of work and organisational psychological theories and will be able to apply these theories to practical issues. There will be a focus on how the students can use their clinical background in organisational settings.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

The student

  • has knowledge of central theories and research within work and organisational psychology
  • has knowledge of connections between work and health and how health can be strengthened or worsened through work.
  • have knowledge of how psychological, social, societal, and physical factors work together to inhibit or promote people's occupational health and work engagement.
  • has knowledge of principles for management, and the role of the leader in organisations and systems
  • develops more in-depth knowledge of specific topics the student chooses to focus on in the term paper.

Skills:

The student

  • can apply knowledge of management principles to exercise leadership
  • can plan and implement measures that promote occupational health at individual and group levels

General competence:

The student

  • can reflect critically on issues related to work and organisational psychology, such as what promotes or undermines occupational health and effective leadership.
  • has competence in carrying out professional presentations based on their own research questions.
  • can address solutions to practical problems encountered in organizational settings.
  • can write a theoretical paper that meets APA standards.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, workshops and student presentations.

Compulsory assignments

  • 80% Mandatory attendance
  • Oral group presentation

Further on evaluation

3-4 students will write the term paper together.

The term paper must be written in Times New Roman, font size 12, and references must be in APA style. Line spacing must be 2

Compulsory activities from previous semesters may be approved by the department.
