Course content

The course will give the students a continuation and deeper understanding of the most central personality theories with particular emphasis on the application of personality psychology theories in clinical practice.

This subject constitutes applied and clinical use of knowledge acquired in the subjects Personality Psychology 1 PSYPRO1116 and 2 PSYPRO4316. The subject is a course with an emphasis on application and clinical understanding of personality psychology. The curriculum and teaching cover central personality theories and their clinical application (e.g. trait theories, psychodynamic theories, cognitive and humanistic/existential theories). Various concepts and empirical evidence from personality psychology are reviewed, with particular emphasis on the application of this knowledge in clinical practice. The distinction between normal functioning and pathology is thematised. Development of the ability to reflect independently within the thematic area is also emphasized.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

The student has thorough knowledge about application and clinical understanding of personality psychology.

The student has thorough knowledge about the border between normal functioning and psychopathology based on personality theories.

Skills:

The student can apply and interpret personality tests in a clinical context.

General competence:

The student has developed his/her ability for independent reflection within clinical and applied personality psychology.

The student can convey and discuss in writing the central theories, issues and relevance of personality psychology in relation to clinical is able to communicate and discuss main theories, problems and the relevance of personality psychology in relation to clinical issues.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and seminars.

The subject is evaluatet with a homeexam that lasts over a week. hcpractical use of various personality tests is included as mandatory exercises in the course
