About the course

Course content

The course is a basic course in cognitive psychology (theory and method). Cognitive Psychology is used throughout the entire range of human knowledge, perception, activity, speech processing, problem solving and thinking about learning and memory. The course will give students knowledge of the most important concepts, themes, problems and empirical research in modern cognitive theory as it concerns how we receive, interpret, edit, use and save information. The course will deal with the study of both general traits and individual differences.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

  • The student has a broad knowledge of human cognition, through: sensing and perception; attention; memory; language and thinking; and learning and problem solving.
  • The student is familiar with the core concepts, themes, issues and empirical findings in the field of modern cognitive psychology, specifically when it applies to how we receive, interpret, process, use and retain information.

Skills

  • The student can summarise both theories and research findings from the field of cognitive psychology, by analysing and discussing scholarly issues within the subject area.
  • The student can express themselves in writing, in a manner that is appropriate when communicating about the relevant subject area.

General competence

  • The student has developed a scholarly attitude and is capable of independent reflection and of applying logic generally.
  • The student has developed the ability to think critically, with respect for the scientific data and ethical values within the field of study.

Lectures 2 hours per week, studygroups.
