Course content

The main focus of this course is to teach students test methodology so that students can assess the quality of tests that can be used in the workplace. In this course the student will also receive an overview of different types of tests and assessment procedures that are in the labor market for employment, career guidance, training, development and performance reviews. Examples of tests and assessment procedures that can be reviewed are: job analysis, recruitment interviews, personality tests, ability tests, interest tests, tests of emotional intelligence, team skill tests, tests to assess the quality of team work, tests on leadership and change readiness tests. This course will also review ethical guidelines and standards for testing and selection. Human factors deal with how one can customize the tool, the workplace and tasks so that as much as possible it is adapted to the user. Students will learn some methods that can be used to assess this.

Learning outcome

Knowledge: - The student has knowledge about psychological test methods. - The student has knowledge of key tests and assessment procedures that can be used for employment, career counseling, training, development and performance assessment. - The student has knowledge about ethical guidelines and standards for testing and selection. - The student has knowledge about typical human factors methods used in industry Skills: - The students can assess whether a test is reliable, valid and applicability for use in a work setting. - The students can carry out and provide feedback on the NEO PI-R personality test. - Students can conduct a job analysis. - The students can evaluate and work according to ethical guidelines for test users. - Students can conduct a job interview. General skills: - Student can reflect on ethical guidelines. - The student has a high degree of knowledge in the field of psychological testing methodology. - The student has a high degree of knowledge in testing and evaluation procedures within work and organizational psychology.

The teaching in this course will be between 1st of February until 15th of march. The students will be randomly assigned to groups (4-6 per group) at the beginning. All students are required to submit their version of the work in INSPERA before the deadline, 13.05, and the folder needs to be identical for all the members of each group.

The folder (Mappe) consists of 6 assignments, which will be formulated as cases, each with 2-6 specific assignments. Assignment 1 focuses on ethics and regulations and should be minimum 6 pages and maximum 12.

Assignment 2, about job analysis, shall include an interview guide, a work-requirement description, as well as a document describing the process, to ensure transparency. Minimum 4 pages, maximum 10.

Assignment 3 includes both a delivery in the folder, as well as a mandatory presentation of a given psychological test. The presentation needs to be approved before submitting the work. Assignment 4, on job interviews, requires the delivery of interview guides, a description of a job interview performed by the group, and a discussion of their experiences considering relevant literature.

Minimum 6, maximum 10 pages.

Assignment 5 is an evaluation including feedback on a personality profile and produce a report on reflections concerning an optimal selection procedure. Minimum 10 pages, maximum 20. Assignment 6 includes a case on Human factors, and a delivery about user analysis, task analysis and error-indicator analysis. The assignment also includes a usability analysis. Minimum 5 maximum 15 pages.

The folder should be organized with a clear description of the cases, content and page numbers. All assignments must be answered and all of them need to pass in order for the Folder to pass. All written parts of the assignment (i.e., all parts except the presentation) should be submitted as one file, at the same time.

Use Times New Roman, font size 12, double spaced, for the text. References in APA format.

No individual supervision is given, but the teaching includes dedicated time for working with the folder and supervision in plenum.

All parts of the Folder will be evaluated in the grading.
