Course content
The course is an introduction to the historical development of psychology and its central issues. Focus is placed on the emergence of modern psychology during the turn of the 20th century and how the issues explored during this time have contributed to the development of contemporary psychology.
The course also provides an introduction to academic writing and dissemination. Special emphasis is placed on the characteristic elements of established written scientific methods of presentation. Overall, the course provides basic competence for further studies in psychology as a discipline and profession, but also for academic studies in general.
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
- The student has broad knowledge of the historical development of psychology as a scientific discipline.
- The student has knowledge of the role of development and change as an important approach to the understanding of psychological phenomena.
Skills:
- The student can account for similarities and differences between the different historical branches of psychology.
- The student can conduct a literature search and find in-depth literature for further reflection.
- The student can correctly make references according to APA guidelines.
- The student masters the use of digital reference tools.
- The student can analyze and relate critically to contemporary psychological theories, discourses
General competence:
- The student can disseminate central course material related to the history of psychology.
- The student can analyze psychology’s scientific and theoretical foundations, and thereby contribute to innovation in the subject
- The student can express himself/herself in writing in a way that satisfies basic requirements for scientific standards.
- The student can reflect on central issues within philosophy and history of science, scientific theory and ethics"
