Course content

The course is part of flexible practical-pedagogical education (PPU) and intended for students in practical-pedagogical education that only has one teaching subject. The course aims to provide insight into and academic-ethical wisdom in the work of developing robust and safe learning environments which include a diversity of pupils, through motivational, varied, flexible, and productive learning processes. A theoretical and practical approach to adapted teaching provides opportunities to critically examine and reflect upon considerations related to the teachers' professional work in the diverse classroom. The course specifically focuses on how schools formally address cases in which pupils do not receive satisfactory learning outcomes from ordinary teaching. When pupils need adapted teaching and/or special education in one or more subjects, it is important that the teacher is prepared for a critical investigation of didactic and ethical challenges and dilemmas related to his or her work in the classroom.

Learning outcome

To be able to speak, read and write a professional language that contributes to become an independent teacher, is the basis for the assessment of learning outcomes.

The student:

  • has keen insight into the various challenges that youth face
  • has an awareness of the learning environment, can apply knowledge about relational-based learning- and conflict management, and can implement preventive relational measures
  • can act professionally and ethically accountable, based on values that form the basis of an inclusive school.

Learning methods and activities

The course aims to develop an exemplary form of teaching. This implies an active and experience-oriented teaching method with emphasis on reflection over student practice individually and in groups. The study methods include, for example, short introductory lectures, various practical and theoretical assignments in groups, and the presentation and discussion of student work. The study methods are demanding and process-oriented, and assume that the students are present and that they will contribute to the learning of others. All teaching is compulsory.

Compulsory assignments

  • Compulsory papers and activities
  • Compulsory work
  • Compulsory participation in teaching periods

Further on evaluation

The student can answer the assignments in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish.

Class of 2020 will only be taking a home exam. For a detailed description of the subject assessment, see the study and teaching plan.
