Course content

An introduction to the globalization literature and literature about regional economic integration with contributions from economics, political science, sociology and history. Both theoretical, conceptual and empirical issues will be discussed.

Learning outcome

Knowledge - the student shall:

  • know how to define the term globalization and have knowledge of the main features of globalization, with particular emphasis on economic globalization
  • have knowledge of how Norway is affected economically, and also politically and culturally, by globalization and participation in the internal market of the EU

Skills - the student shall demonstrate the ability to:

  • apply terms, theories and models which are central to globalization and regional economic integration
  • demonstrate independence in the preparation of a semester assignment which fulfills the basic criteria for scientific writing

Learning methods and activities

Lectures 2 hours a week throughout the semester and supervision of the term paper. Compulsory activity: Approved term paper. Specific requirements for the term paper will be announced at the beginning of the term. Approved compulsory activity from previous semesters can be approved.
