About the course

Course content

The master's thesis consists of a report based on an independent piece of research that is completed in the last semester of the course. The course is mandatory. The thesis is based on the plans made while doing the project preparatory seminar in 3rd semester. The thesis is to result in a report of between 18000-27000 words (A4 or B5 format, spacing 1.15, Verdana 10 pt.). The student will be given supervision by an appointed supervisor. Supervision will ensure that the student receives advice regarding literature, practical advice about the acquisition and treatment of data, and ensuring that this is done within ethical research guidelines.

The master`s thesis can be written as an article.

Learning outcome

After completing the thesis the student is able to:

  • Complete an independent research project based on a chosen topic.
  • Select the relevant theory and research methods as tools for research.
  • Analyze, communicate and draw valid conclusions from an independent research.
  • Follow guidelines for ethical research.

Learning methods and activities

Individual supervision will be offered by the Department according to the Department's guidelines. All students must submit a master's thesis agreement.

Further on evaluation

The final exam consists of the thesis and an oral exam in the form of a conversation about the master's thesis. The oral exam will be used to adjust the grade on the master's thesis.

Required previous knowledge

The main rule is that all courses in the study program must be passed before starting of the master's thesis. Upon application, a maximum of one course of 7.5 credits can remain outstanding. The condition is that the remaining course is not considered essential for the completion of the master's thesis.
