About the course
Course content
There will be given introductions to central theories on learning, development, motivation and self-concept. Within the previously mentioned areas emphasis will be placed on the understanding of concepts and the connection between the various concepts. Emphasis will be put on understanding the significance different learning environments have for learning, development, motivation and self-concept. The students will be given an overview of central conditions for learning and development, and questions about how the learning environment can stimulate those conditions will be discussed. The course is obligatory in order to achieve full specialization in education studies
Learning outcome
The aim of the course is to provide insight into topics that are important in understanding and adjusting learning and development in children, adolescents and adults. The students shall acquire knowledge on:
- Central theories on learning
- Central theories on children's development
- Central theories on motivation and self-perception
The students shall develop skills in:
- Using the knowledge on theoretical and practical problems
- Using the knowledge to bring clarity to educational practice
- Sharing the knowledge
- Writing academic texts
Learning methods and activities
6 hours teaching per week with varied learning methods and activities. Compulsory assignment: A written assignment must be approved before the student can take the exam. A detailed description of the compulsory assignment will be given at the start of the semester.
