About the course

Course content

The main focus of this subject is film music, but also other manifestations of the combination of music and image are involved. The course includes both historical perspectives and discussions of aesthetic positions and musical strategies concerning music's interactions with the moving image. Questions pertaining to the broader, historical music development in which music and visual presentations progress is also examined. The lectures, seminars and curriculum display different methodological points of departure.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:
An examinee with a completed qualification in MUSV2002
- has knowledge about the broader, musical development from the last part of the 19th. century until today, in which the interaction between music and the moving image plays a part
- has knowledge about music in film and in other visual media where music plays an important role
- has knowledge about key issues concerning the interaction between music and the moving image

Skills:
An examinee with a completed qualification in MUSV2002
- has the ability to apply his/her knowledge analytically and interpretively in questions concerning music's position and function in connection with moving images
- can use his/her knowledge analytically and interpretively within the scope of the over-all subject
- is able to convincingly formulate his/her knowledge
- is able to reflect upon his/her acquired knowledge and to further develop it in an independent manner

General competence:
An examinee with a completed qualification in MUSV2002
- has a conscious awareness of the interaction between music and image
