Course content

The focus is concentrated on counterpoint and modal harmonisation.

Learning outcome

The course should provide practices for students in the composition of different kinds of movements for ecclesiastical use.

Knowledge:

The student:

  • has knowledge about 1500 century vocal polyphony based on the Palestrina style.

Skills:

The candidate:

  • has experience in arranging and composing ecclesiastical every day music
  • can write down exercises and simple motets in two-, three- and four-part counterpoint.
  • can draw lines from the basic composition techniques into her/his own compositions.

Learning methods and activities

Group instruction - 1 hour pr. week for 24 weeks.

Compulsory assignments

  • Assessments
  • Satisfactory participation in compulsory instruction

Further on evaluation

The student must have passed a defined number of assessments prior to the exam.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Church Music (ÅKIRKMUS)
Music Performance Studies (BMUSP)

Required previous knowledge

Requires passed MUSP4152 or MUSP4161 or corresponding course.
