Course content
Insight into the theory of science and method is fundamental for understanding, assessing, problematizing and conducting Norwegian didactic research yourself. Norwegian didactic research draws perspectives and approaches from a wide range of subject and research traditions, and this course opens up an opportunity for different types of Norwegian didactic master's theses and prepares candidates for independent work with these. The course involves thinking about and including relevant theory of science, history, philosophy and sociology, and emphasizes the connection between ontology, epistemology, methodology and method. This enables the candidate to make reasoned choices of specific approaches in their own master's projects. The course further contributes with knowledge of the relationship between research, researchers, disciplines and society, and develops the candidates' critical and research ethics sense. The course consists of one common part, and one more specialized part that provides space for in-depth study of relevant methodological topics related to the candidate's own research interests.

Assessment method and grading scale: Individual home examination over 3 days. Assessment: Pass / fail
Compulsory activities and work requirements: oral presentations and seminar participation in response to fellow students' presentations
All compulsory activities must be approved before the student can sit for the exam.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Primary and Lower Secondary Teacher Education for Years 5-10 (MGLU5-10)
Recommended previous knowledge
Passed 30 credits at master's level in Norwegian didactics or equivalent
Required previous knowledge
The student must have passed Norwegian 1 and completed Norwegian 2 to be able to start courses in cycle 2. Passing is understood as the student having completed and passed the exam in the course. Completed is understood as that all compulsory work requirements in the course have been approved, in other words that the student is ready for the exam.
Course materials
The syllabus consists of books and articles in Scandinavian and English. It will be posted on Blackboard before the start of studies.
