Course content

Supervised specialized master's thesis study of selected and approved research question relevant to subject content, teaching, learning or developmental work in primary and lower secondary school. social studies.

The candidate:

  • has specialized knowledge of the master's thesis' topics and questions and of previous research on these

SKILLS

The candidate:

  • can carry out a research process and analyse research questions based on the master subject's uniqueness, subject knowledge, understanding of methods and critical scientific approach
  • can formulate professional chains of thought and reason rigorously and precisely, use relevant theory and place own findings in relation to previous research results

GENERAL COMPETENCE

The candidate:

  • can systematically choose research design and apply relevant methods in the master's thesis
  • can discuss, convey and communicate academic content that are relevant to the school subject at an advanced level
  • can conduct systematic school subject-relevant research and development work within established regulations and accepted norms for research ethics and privacy
  • can convey results from extensive independent work in an understandable and research-ethically satisfactory way.

Learning methods and activities

Individual writing of master thesis. Thesis seminars and supervision in groups (composed of students with issues that are close to each other) and individually.

Further on evaluation

The Master's thesis is usually written in monograph format. The thesis can be submitted individually or as a joint project for two students. If the thesis is submitted as a joint project, a document describing the individual candidate's contribution must be attached. When the Master's thesis is submitted as a joint project, a common grade is typically given for the thesis. In rare cases, however, it may be necessary to assess the candidates separately.

Specific conditions

Required previous knowledge

Passed Social Studies 1 and Social Studies 2 (a total of 60 credits). Passed the research & development thesis in the third year of primary school education.
