Course content
The course's academic content is centered around the school's dual social mission, education and Bildung. Central themes are Bildung, the school in a diverse society, curriculum understanding and professional judgement. The purpose of the course is for the student to develop an understanding of how societal processes affect the teacher's work in the classroom and of the school's role as part of the local, national and global community.

- has in-depth knowledge of the school's social mandate, and can discuss opportunities and challenges related to the implementation of the current curriculum
- can critically reflect on an extended concept of Bildung and how the teacher through professional judgment facilitates Bildung in the classroom
- have advanced knowledge of social and cultural diversity in an inclusive school
- have knowledge of the prevention and handling of bullying and exclusion
Skills
The student
- can apply their professional judgment to identify, critically analyze and address the school's complexity in order to promote the pupils’ Bildung and education
- can apply knowledge and perspectives on diversity in their work at school
- can apply inclusive dialogic approaches to promote democracy in schools
- can communicate advanced course content in writing, orally and in other relevant forms of expression

Learning methods and activities
The teaching methods vary between lectures, student-active seminars, and individual and group work. It is a prerequisite that the students participate actively in the teaching, and that they work with the teaching and learning materials on their own. Reflection on theory and practice is central to the development of professional competence in teaching.

- Two written assignments and one oral presentation
- Minimum 75% attendance
- All mandatory activities must be approved in order to sit for the exam.

Primary and Lower Secondary Teacher Education for Years 5-10 (MGLU5-10) - some programmes
Recommended previous knowledge
Passed 1-3 years in primary and lower secondary teacher education.
Required previous knowledge
Student must have received a passing grade in the subject area - Knowledge, learning and Bildung in teacher profession, in addition to PEL 1 and PEL 2 (30 SP) or equivalent.
