Course content

In the first main area of the subject, we build further on the academic content of Social Studies 1 part 2 and Social Science 2 by analyzing the growth of European thoughts and following the process towards today's EU. Along with the great political post war picture and important economic development lines, economic globalization should also be drawn into an overall discussion of the constitution, nation and democracy, but with special emphasis on Norway and discussions and conflicts on political and economic globalization and the implications of these processes on Norwegian society and on national government. Globalization-friendly and globalization-critical positions and statements link the theme with the other main area of the topic: Speech and media in the past and present. This will be studied with a focus on academic writing, text- and discourse analysis and critical thinking in social studies, a theme where researchers' views and research method meet school subjects, basic skills in social studies and social science didactic thinking. Most of the case studies will be drawn from discussion and media statements about Norway's place in Europe and the world after 1945.
