Course content

The course consists mainly of independent creative work on the basis of a self-chosen topic and guidance related to this. Literature studies in self-chosen curriculum,and in artistic subjects : aesthetics, aesthtics learning processes, perception and creativity. Reflection on the process from idea to finished product and how the art subjects are linked to the creative process.

Knowledge

The student

  • has specialized knowledge of the self-chosen topic, both theoretical knowledge, material technical and formal aesthetics
  • will contribute to specialized knowledge of how the self-chosen topic relates to subject tradition in both academic and subject didactic contexts.

Skills

The student

  • has techniques, materials and tools that are relevant to the self-chosen topic at an advanced level
  • has both craftsmanship and formal aesthetics
  • can make independent searches for relevant knowledge, skills, theory, and sources of inspiration for the self-chosen topic

General competence

The student can

  • work systematically and independently with a limited problem, and apply academic knowledge and aesthetic judgment at an advanced level-expressing through his / her own practical creative work and use relevant subject terminology both verbally and in writing at an advanced level

Learning methods and activities

The program will consist of an exchange between one's own creative work, meeting with the visual and graphic arts, theoretical studies and excursions. Reflection on one's own and others' exploration of materials and techniques is central. The students will work with academic and current issues. Documentation of work processes must be done through logs.

Compulsory activities:

  • A project outline where they describe a systematic research which will be carried out in materials and techniques in the workshop.
  • Participation in seminar where the student will present the project for fellow students and supervisors, and give constructive response to fellow students.

Work requirements are assessed with approved / not approved. Work requirements must be approved before students can take the exam.

Assessment form:

The examination consists of:

  • An exhibition of practical work
  • A video presenting parts of the research.

Specific conditions

Required previous knowledge

Candidate must have successfully passed Arts and Crafts 1 and completed Arts and Crafts 2 to begin Cycle 2 courses. Passing is understood as the student completing the course and passing the examination. Completed is understood as having all obligatory coursework approved and qualifying the student for the course examination.
