About the course

Course content

The course deals with analysis, discussion and evaluation of literature and theory with relevance to physical education. Students gain insight into research status within relevant subjects. The course addresses different perspectives on movement and bodily learning and deals with topics such as motor development and learning, the learning processes, health perspectives and physical literacy. The course also addresses educational topics and issues related to teaching methods, assessment, professional culture, ethics and relevant documents.

Knowledge

The student is expected to

  • have advanced knowledge of educational issues and physical education as a field of research
  • be able to analyze issues in physical education based on the subjects purpose, history, traditions and status in society
  • can apply various theoretical framework to elucidate professional and educational issues in physical education

Skills

The candidate is expected to

  • be able to analyze and critically relate to national and international research and apply this knowledge into professional practice
  • be able to analyze academic issues based on knowledge about the distinctive character of physical education, values and history and use such insight into teaching, research and experimental development
  • be able to critically analyze, reflect and discuss relevant educational issues based on research-based knowledge

General competence

The candidate is expected to

  • be able to debate and communicate about professional issues with a holistic approach to learning and development in physical education
  • be able to contribute to experimental development that promotes academic and educational innovation in school

The teaching methods will vary between lectures, supervision, seminars, self-study and practicals.

Mandatory work requirements: Up to 5 mandatory work requirements that are assessed approved/not approved. The work requirements can be individual or in groups, in the form of observation, participation in learning activities, written reports or subject texts in written or multimedia form. Mandatory work requirements must be approved before the exam;

Specific conditions

Required previous knowledge

Candidate must have successfully passed Physical Education 1 and completed Physical Education 2 to begin Cycle 2 courses. “Passing” is understood as the student completing the course and passing the examination. “Completed” is understood as having all obligatory coursework approved and qualifying the student for the course examination.
