Course content
The course provides a more in depth look at relevant texts and narratives with examples from Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. The course sheds light on the relationship between religions/lifeviews and ethics, and on how to work with that in school. The course aims at giving knowledge about philosophical ways of thinking and philosophical forms of conversation, within and outside school. The course provides practical experience in planning and implementing KRLE-excursions with pupils.

KNOWLEDGE
The student
- has extensive knowledge of a selection of texts and narratives in religions and how to work with them in the school.
- has knowledge about the relationship between religion/worldview and ethics.
- has knowledge about philosophical ways of thinking and forms of conversation, within and outside the school, past and present.
- has knowledge about selected ethical and philosophical challenges.
- has knowledge about how aesthetic methods can help to promote learning, motivation and variation in the work on the subject
- has knowledge about research on children in relation to religion, worldviews and ethics
SKILLS
The student
- is capable of explaining texts and narratives in religions and use them in teaching.
- is capable of preparing teaching arrangements that use aesthetic methods and digital tools
- is capable of discussing different aspects of the relationship between religion/worldviews and ethics.
- is capable of discussing selected philosophical and ethical problems
- is able to reflect on different teaching methods and forms of evaluation which are used in the school-subject.
GENERAL COMPETENCE
The student
- is capable of discussing and applying curricula as a basis for teaching.
- is capable of discussing varying methods in KRLE.
Learning methods and activities
Teaching methods will include weekly in-class lessons, working with tasks both individually and in groups, discussions, and student presentations. Discussions and other academic interactions, such as responding to fellow students' work, are important ways for working and learning in the course, and all students are expected to participate in these activities. Excursions are part of mandatory activities which may take place outside regular lessons.

Mandatory activities:
- Planning and carrying out excursions with pupils. The mandatory activity includes mandatory attendance and writing of several different texts.
- Planning, introducing and conducting dialogues/discussions with fellow students
- Participation in conversations conducted by fellow-students, including planning, carrying-out and debriefing.
- 2 text-interpretations (1 individually, 1 group), one of them connected to Christian tradition
The assessment of these works will be graded either passed or not passed. Candidates who risk not being allowed to take the exam, shall get a warning, according to Academic Regulations (https://lovdata.no/dokument/SF/forskrift/2015-12-08-1449).
Exam:
- Individual R&D thesis. Grading: passed/ not passed.
- Written examination (6 hrs., individually). Grading system A-F.
If R&D thesis is not approved, you have opportunity to submit an improved assignment for assessment only once (counted as exam attempt number two). At the third exam attempt, a completely new assignment must be submitted.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Primary and Lower Secondary Teacher Education for Years 5-10 (MGLU5-10) - some programmes
Recommended previous knowledge
KRLE 1 (5-10) module 1: Western Religions, Secular Life Views and Ancient Philosophy in Society and School and KRLE 1 (5-10) module 2: Christianity, Eastern Religions, New Religious Movements and Ethics in Society and School.
