Course content
Social studies 1 part 1 provides an introduction to the social sciences as areas of knowledge and school subjects with relevance for teaching at primary and secondary level.
Within the field of culture, diversity and socialization, emphasis is placed on basic sociological concepts, themes and understandings, with the main emphasis on social inequality.
A basic introduction will be given to geographical topics and understandings based on the focus area ‘from the local to the global’ with special focus on place and landscape, population and north / south relations.
The course draws some basic lines in world history, Sami history and history didactics.
Introduction to the school subject includes the school subject's purpose, value mandate and curriculum.

The student
- Has broad knowledge of key themes, theories and processes in the fields of culture, diversity and socialization.
- Has acquired broad knowledge of geographical theories, processes and themes along the axis from the local to the global
- Has basic knowledge of world history, Sami history and history didactics
- Has broad knowledge of the school subject social studies purpose, value mandate and curriculum.
SKILLS
The student
- Can identify connections between the course's thematic areas and explain how they interfere with each other
- Can link basic insights from themes in the subject to the didactic theory of the social subject in planning and implementation of teaching.
- Able to develop and apply academic skills such as critical thinking and argumentation.

The student
- Can reflect independently and critically on social science issues based on knowledge and familiarity with different perspectives
- Has a reflected perspective on geographical knowledge and the connection between topics along the axis from the local to the global.
- Has insights into the main lines of world history, Sami history and basic knowledge of history didactic theories.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, independent and collaborative work, with and without tutoring. Work with compulsory and other assignments individually and collaboratively. Excursions/city walks.

The portfolio assessment consists of
- a collection of individual book reports
- an individual task
Both parts of the portfolio must meet the minimum requirements given at the start of the semester in order for the portofolio to be graded. Both sub-assessments must be passed for the student to obtain a passing grade in the course. If a student has failed in one of the sub-assessments (the portofolio is viewed as a sub-assessment in its entirety), only needs to retake a new assessment in the part the student has failed. If a student retakes a passed exam, the student must take a new assessment for both the portfolio and the written exam. Premitted aids written exam: current corriculum and calculator type A.
Mandatory activties Approved assignment (s) and / or test (s) of a written and / or oral nature must be completed, as well as compulsory attendance at selected parts and an introductory session.
It is possible to appeal a grade given on parts of the assessment.
