Course content

The course promotes knowledge and application of endurance and strength training for both healthy individuals and those with cardiovascular or lifestyle-related conditions. Participants will have the opportunity to hear lectures from international experts in the field.

The course covers the full spectrum of professional assessments needed for recommending, planning, and implementing exercise as medicine in a personal training and coaching setting. Additionally, the course emphasizes the use of eHealth tools for monitoring, follow-up, and enhancing motivation in patients with lifestyle-related diseases.

Learning outcome

Knowledge


The student has:

  • Basic knowledge of exercise physiology, exercise principles, cardiac abnormalities, and lifestyle disorders, as well as lifestyle modifications for patients with heart disease.
  • Knowledge of the effective and safe use of endurance and strength training in both health and disease.
  • Knowledge of how to plan and conduct training for a wide range of individuals, including the use of eHealth tools and activity monitors for monitoring, follow-up, and motivation of patients with lifestyle-related diseases.

Skills


The student can:

  • Plan and implement effective endurance and strength training for both healthy individuals and those with health conditions.
  • Utilize various types of eHealth tools and activity monitors for monitoring, follow-up, and motivation of patients with lifestyle-related diseases.

General Competence


The student has:

  • Insight into basic exercise physiology, training principles, hjertefeil, lifestyle disorders, lifestyle changes, and specific considerations for patients with heart disease.
  • Competence in planning and executing effective and safe training programs for various patient groups with cardiovascular and lifestyle-related diseases.

Learning methods and activities

The course is completely online. It consists of digital lectures, one or two 2-hours lecture(s) per week (January-April), a written report on a course-related theme, and ends with a digital home exam.

Further on evaluation

To take the exam, students must submit a written report and have it approved. The home exam is graded as approved/not approved.

Students retaking the course, must take the exam again. An approved written report is valid for re-taking the exam over 4 semesters.

MH - Continuing education - Category E - Lower degree - Funding 65% Institution 35% Student (MHEVUEL65)

Required previous knowledge

General university admission certification or equivalent.
