Course content

In semester 2C, the following subjects are taught: adult psychiatry, child and youth psychiatry, substance abuse, physical medicine, neurosurgery, neurology, ENT, eye and stroke.

In connection with the above subjects, teaching is given in microbiology, imaging, pharmacology, pathology and medical biochemistry.

All Link students, including those possibly traveling on exchange, must during the autumn of the fourth year of study choose a topic for their main thesis, make an agreement with their supervisor and submit a protocol for approval by 31 January of the following semester. See also semester 3A.

In addition, there will be teaching in the longitudinal threads "Scientific competence", "Health promotion and prevention" and "Communication, patient contact and professionalism" which will run from start to finish throughout the entire medical course.

Course MDA4042 is the decentralized variant of course MDT4042. Prerequisites, exam forms and learning objectives are identical, while the learning forms vary.

Learning outcome

There are several learning objectives related to the semester subjects. These objectives are available at the "Læringsutbyttedatabasen" at the faculty`s home page.

Learning methods and activities

  • Team Based Learning (TBL)
  • Problem Based Learning (PBL)
  • Clinical teaching
  • Skill training
  • Simulation
  • Courses/exercises
  • Skills lab
  • Lectures (streamed from other campuses)

Teaching in the subject takes place at NTNU Campus Ålesund, Ålesund Hospital and Ålesund Local Medical Center. A very high degree of student activity is planned both in clinical teaching with patients and in theory teaching. The students must come prepared and are assigned to carry out consultations under supervision or to solve theoretical tasks in small groups before they are reviewed in plenary.

The PBL teaching has the same content as in MDT4042.

Plenary teaching mainly takes place in the form of Team-Based Learning (TBL). Students get access to teaching material from the course MDT4042.

Compulsory assignments

  • PBL
