Course content
3D Modeling Module: 2D and 3D technical drawing using a computer. Introduction to the most common drawing commands and functions. Drawing of new models and editing of previously drawn material. Plan, facade, and section drawings. Printing and plotting of drawings. Additive manufacturing. Welds, sheet metal manufacturing, parametric modeling, etc.
Simulation Module: Finite Element Methods (FEM) in general; theory, boundary conditions, and element types (solid and sheet elements, beams, and trusses) with several degrees of freedom (DOF). Selection of optimal designs for deformation and strength. Static strength calculation, thermal analysis, truss analysis, static indeterminate constructions, vibration analysis, and frequency calculations. Calculation of dynamically loaded weld joints, fatigue, and non-linear cases. Structural optimization.
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
- The candidate has competence in understanding the design process from idea to 3D model with the use of 3D modeling and variant construction.
- The candidate has the competence to use element methods in general Skills.
- The candidate can realize a product as a 3D model.
- The candidate can identify, plan and execute simulations, as well as analyze, interpret and use emergent data, both independently and in groups.
General competence:
- The candidate has insight into the technical consequences of selected solutions within his / her field of expertise and can assess the disadvantages and advantages of the chosen methods.

Re-sit exam in august. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from off campus exam to oral exam.
2/3 compulsory exercises must be approved to take the exam. Previous mandatory activities can be approved by the Institute.
