The course focuses on health and participation challenges seen from a life course perspective, social citizenship perspective and social inclusion perspective.

The course is based on knowledge about how participation in children and young people's upbringing, education, employment and leisure can be made possible under different life conditions. Here we are particularly concerned about the significance of participation and inclusion for different population groups, including people with an increased risk of social exclusion. In the course, we approach participation and inclusion based on occupational therapy, occupational science as well as theories and models that emphasize social citizenship and civic roles.

The course is based on current research, measures, working methods and theoretical tools that can contribute to sustainable health and services. This includes a focus on the individual and life course, as well as a broader societal perspective on health, work and measures that can contribute to reducing social differences in the population. From a societal perspective, questions are also raised about the organization of various types of services.

Knowledge

After completing the course, the student should:

- have a broad overview of inclusive and exclusive factors for different groups and how social, psychosocial and health factors affect participation for children, young people and adults.

- have in-depth knowledge of inclusion, equality and non-discrimination, as well as knowledge about social citizenship and civil rights of particular importance to minority groups and vulnerable groups.

- have in-depth knowledge of transitional phases related to children and young people's upbringing, school, employment and retirement and how this affects habits, roles, coping, activity and participation.

-have knowledge of theoretical, methodological and ethical challenges in research and evaluation measures with the goal of participation and inclusion of all.

Skills

After completing the course, the student can:

- apply an occupational therapy work process and use guiding, resource-oriented, enabling, problem-solving and creative strategies to promote participation in various arenas in society.

- apply knowledge about physical, psychosocial, structural, digital, attitudinal conditions to promote participation in kindergarten, school, employment and education.

- reflect and see the linkages between health, upbringing, education, employment and living conditions in a more holistic perspective to contribute to the development of good inclusion for both individuals and groups.

General competence

After completing the course, the student can:

- apply their knowledge and skills in research and evaluation work with the aim of promoting participation and inclusion in the population

- plan and collaborate in inclusion measures in a life course, social citizenship and inclusion perspective

- exchange views and experiences on equal services and good practice that contribute to the participation and inclusion of the entire population.

Learning methods and activities

Learning methods and activities.

Lectures and group work. The course in this study uses a large degree of student-active forms of learning. This can take place in groups, team-based learning, self-study, problem solving and problem writing, seminars, skills training, and dialogue-based lectures. Digital learning methods are used when appropriate.

Required previous knowledge

Equivalent to admission to a master's degree in clinical health sciences. Other candidates are assessed individually
