KLH3304 - Coping in everyday life

Course content

The course focuses on rehabilitation and prevention related to coping with everyday life. In the course, we work with occupational therapy and occupational science theories and models of coping in the light of a lifecycle and generation perspective. In continuation of this, the course focuses on physical, psychosocial, structural, digital and attitudinal conditions to promote coping in everyday life. The course contains knowledge-based and sustainable working methods and tools to be able to analyze different aspects of coping with everyday life for individuals and groups. In this course, we are both concerned with the users and their adaption to innovation in health services.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

After completing the course, the student should:

  • have in-depth knowledge of challenges in rehabilitation and preventive measures related to everyday coping
  • have advanced knowledge of occupational therapy theories, models and recent research on coping in everyday life adapted to users
  • have knowledge of rehabilitation and prevention adapted to different population group
  • have knowledge of everyday coping seen in a lifecycle and generation perspective.
  • have knowledge of preventive measures related to everyday coping
  • be able to analyze and critically relate to methodological and ethical challenges in research and evaluation that deal with coping in everyday life for different user groups
  • be able to apply knowledge of physical, psychosocial, structural, digital, attitudinal conditions to promote coping in everyday life

Skills

After completing the course, the student can:

  • apply scientific theories and research-based models of mastery in everyday life
  • can use relevant methods and research design depending on topic and research questions.
  • apply knowledge of physical, psychosocial, structural, digital, attitudinal conditions to promote coping in everyday life in different population groups
  • identify and analyze factors and measures that contribute to promoting or inhibiting everyday coping
  • use relevant methods and relate to methodological and ethical challenges in research and evaluation measures with the aim of promoting everyday coping for different population groups.
  • reflect and discuss the connection between everyday coping and the organization of rehabilitation and preventive measures adapted to the users

General competence

After completing the course, the student can:

  • apply relevant methods and analyzes in research and evaluation of measures to promote different groups' everyday coping
  • understand the importance of and plan measures that promote coping in everyday life
  • exchange views and experiences on equal services and good practice that contribute to sustainability and innovation in rehabilitation and prevention
  • convey, communicate and contribute to innovation related to measures that promote everyday coping

Learning methods and activities

The course is collection-based, and otherwise consists of lectures and group work. The course in this study uses a large degree of student-active forms of learning. This can take place through the use of groups, team-based learning, self-study, problem solving and problem writing, seminars, skills training and dialogue-based lectures. Digital learning methods are used when appropriate.

Specific conditions

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Clinical Health Science (MKLIHEL)

Required previous knowledge

Equivalent to admission to a master's degree in clinical health sciences. Other candidates are assessed individually.
