About the course

Course content

Students' choice of specialization and project must be approved by the department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management within the semester preceding its completion. A list of suggestions for specific projects will be distributed in the spring semester before the specialization is chosen. Certain project suggestions may require specific courses to be taken in the previous year of study.

Learning outcome

Position and function of the course: The course builds on TIØ4175 Purchasing and Logistics Management and is compulsory for those students in Global Manufacturing Management master program who have chosen IØ3091 Strategic Purchasing Management Specialization Course. Knowledge learnt in this course: Specific and detailed knowledge about theories and concepts that can be used to describe and analyse a purchasing and supply related problem in a practical context, with specific emphasis on aspects of global supply chains. Competences learnt in this course: Defining a problem statement and relevant research questions based on a preliminary sketch of a problem. Relating a practical problem within purchasing and supply management to relevant scientific literature from the specialization course. Choosing an appropriate research method given the problem statement and the practical aspects of the project. Other competences learnt in this course: The students gain experience in finding relevant literature, gathering empirical data and writing an academic report.

Learning methods and activities

Independent work under supervision. The finished work is to be presented in a written paper which will be evaluated by academic criteria. Students may work alone or in groups of up to three persons.
