Course content
The course is a collaboration between NTNU and University of Stavanger, and will problematize and discuss the inclusion and recognition of children as partners in childhood and welfare institutions based on various social pedagogical perspectives, including dialogism and critical pedagogy. The inclusion of children as partners is enshrined in both social policy and legal guidelines for upbringing and welfare services.
The course will draw on recent research on collaboration between children and professionals. The purpose of the thematic area is to discuss challenges related to cooperation with children within different institutional frameworks.
The course will safeguard NTNU's commitment to sustainable development and relate to section 10.2 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (promoting inclusion regardless of age, gender and disability), section 16.6 (effective, responsible and open institutions) and section 16.7 (responsiveness, inclusive, participant-based and representative decision-making processes at all levels).

- is able to formulate a problem related to the course topic, shed light on the problem based on the syllabus literature, as well as analyze and discuss the topic of the problem
General competence - The candidate
- is capable of identifying, analysing and discussing relevant challenges related to professionals' collaboration with children within different institutional frameworks
- can think innovatively in relation to collaboration with children within different institutional frameworks
Learning methods and activities
Teaching takes place over 3 days with lectures, discussions, student-active learning methods, self-study and written work.
The course can be taught in Norwegian or English.
The course can be cancelled or changed if there are fewer than 5 enrollees and/or the Department of Social Work/Research School does not have teaching capacity.
Compulsory assignments
- Participation, presentation of paper and paperdiscussion
Further on evaluation
Required participation at least 80% with approved paper gives 5 credits.
Work on individual paper: The paper will deal with a chosen topic based on the literature related to the course.
Individual assignment in the form of a written paper of 4000-5000 words, based on approved abstract.
An identical version of the exam paper cannot be used directly in the PhD thesis as an article or a chapter. A revised version of the exam paper may be included in the thesis.
Required previous knowledge
Master's degree or equivalent.
