About the course

Course content

Standardisation, layered communication. Protocols on the application layer, transport layer, network layer, link layer and technology on the physical layer. Network structure, and network components. Network security and common measures like firewall, vpn, ids.

Learning outcome

KNOWLEDGE:

The candidate

  • can explain principles for packet switched and layered communication
  • can explain the workings of protocols on the application-, transport,- network and link layers
  • can explain network security problems, and measures like firewall, ids and vpn

ABILITIES:

The candidate

  • can use Wireshark for analyzing data packets
  • can use the tools Ping and Traceroute

GENERAL COMPETENCE:

The candidate

  • can communicate about network protocols and network solutions

Lectures and exercises will be published. Exercises are done individually, and delivered for approval.
