Course content
IT introduction: Introduction to information technology, computer architecture, binary system, software and operating systems, local networks and the Internet, virtualization and cloud computing, collaboration tools, social media and data security.
Databases: Introduction to data modeling with EER. Design of relation database including use of keys and reference integrity. Database Definition (DDL) and Data Manipulation (DML) in SQL. Use of a selected database tool (MySQL or equivalent).
Learning outcome
Knowledge
The candidate:
- can describe the computer's basic architecture
- explain the operating system's basic functions and roles
- explain the basic behavior of local networks and the internet
- know the concepts of virtualization and known providers within cloud services
- knowing useful collaboration tools and key social media
- know important concepts within databases and explain these
- can use SQL
- understand (interpret) an (E) ER diagram and know how this can be translated into the relational data model
Skills
The candidate:
- can choose appropriate collaborative tools to solve tasks in collaboration with others
- can secure their own computer and computer networks against attacks and accidents
- can create a virtual machine or service with a cloud computing supplier
- can draw their own (E) ER diagrams to achieve a good database structure
- can create a separate database and retrieve and modify the data in this database, all through SQL
General competence
The candidate:
- get a basic understanding of how information technology is used in different contexts of society
- get an understanding of how database solutions can be used to solve different requirements for storing digital data.
Learning methods and activities
Teaching and practical compulsory exercises that are included in the work requirements, supervision with a teacher and / or teaching assistant.

Deferred exam is conducted in the next regular exam period (May/June).
Assessment report requires approved teaching message the same semester. Mandatory activity from previous semesters can be approved by the professor.
