INB6910 - Advanced audiological evaluation

Course content

Students will gain in-depth knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the audio-vestibular system. With the help of recent research, students will acquire expanded theoretical knowledge of electrophysiological measurements and vestibular assessment as a tool for developing clinical competence. Emphasis is placed on the choice of appropriate assessment tools and interpretation of results, seen in connection with the patient's state of health and everyday function. Students will gain broad insight into issues relevant to clinical practice and knowledge of collaboration across professions.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

The student

• has in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology within the central auditory nervous system and the vestibular system

• has in-depth knowledge of general principles behind electrophysiological measurements and assessment of vestibular function

• has in-depth knowledge of registration, analysis and interpretation of auditory evoked potentials (AEP)

• has in-depth knowledge of testing, analysis and interpretation of and vestibular function

• has broad knowledge of developmental and age-related changes in AEP

• has knowledge of age-related changes in vestibular function

Skills

The student

• can describe principles, implementation and interpretation of electrophysiological measurements and vestibular assessment

• can assess and determine appropriate method and protocol for current electrophysiological measurements and vestibular assessment

• can obtain, read and interpret scientific literature on electrophysiological measurements and vestibular assessment

General competence

The student

• can convey academic issues, analyzes and conclusions within the subject area

• can communicate and collaborate interprofessionally on issues, analyzes and conclusions related to the subject area

• can apply knowledge and skills from the subject area seen in connection with the patient's state of health and everyday function

Learning methods and activities

The teaching consists of lectures, group work and discussions.

The home exam is a written assignment with a grade scale A - F

Mandatory activities:

Mandatory activities are valid for two semesters.

MH - Continuing education - Category D - Higher degree - Funding 100% Institution funded (MHEVUDH100)

Required previous knowledge

BA degree in Audiology or equivalent.
