About the course

Course content

The student wishing to register for this course, must first make an appointment with the academic staff present at NTNU in Gjøvik. Attendance on Campus Gjøvik is a requirement.

The topic/content of the project is to be defined by the advisor prior to the start of the project. The project should address challenging scientific research or development problems.

Learning outcome

After completing the course the student will have experience from (knowledge and skills):

  • working individually on a challenging scientific research or development problem
  • planning and conducting an R&D project
  • seeking and assessing work in a field relevant to the project
  • developing and assessing alternative solutions to the problem
  • documenting the results in a scientific report

General competence: The student will have developed a positive attitude to working in a scientific and problem-oriented way and is familiar with the ethics of scientific research.

Learning methods and activities

Project Work

  • Project status must be reported regularly to the advisor.
  • The project report must be presented orally to a general audience towards the end of the project.
  • The project report will assessed and evaluated by the supervisor at NTNU in Gjøvik (passed/not passed)
  • Students will get access to a merged Blackboard course room serving similar courses, only for the purpose of additional best-practice information regarding project work and report writing,

Further on evaluation

A final report as well as an oral presentation of the project will form the basis for evaluation, to be arranged and agreed upon with the supervisor.

The project work/report should reflect on the UN Sustainable Goals.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Miscellaneous Courses - Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (EMNE/IE)

Required previous knowledge

The student must be an exchange student signed up for a Master's degree at a foreign college or university. The student wishing to register for this course, must first make an appointment with the academic staff present at NTNU in Gjøvik.
