About the course

Course content

Aritmetic and algebra, trigonometry, exponential functions and logarithms, differentiation, integration, differential equations, functions of several variables, descriptive statistics including regression, probability,stochastic variables, probability distributions and estimation

Learning outcome

Knowledge The candidate: -has knowledge of good algebraic manipulations -has knowledge of mathematical logical thinking -has knowledge of the use of mathematical computations -has knowledge of the concepts of accuracy and precision and how to describe them -has knowledge of probability calculations -has knowledge of stochastic variables and probability distributions and estimation of stochastic variables Skills The candidate: - can perform calculations on and reshape mathematical expression both in symbol and number form -can present in a credible and correct way both experimental data and theoretical formulas in graphic diagrams -can find mathematical equations from graphical plots and consider how suitable they are to represent a set of data -can do calculations on different functions such as linear functions,power functions, trigonometric functions,exponential functions and logarithmic functions and do differentiation on these and combination of them -can calculate integral and solve differential equations -can present experimental data in table form, in graphic and calculate central tendency and dispersion -can do basic probability equations -can choose probability models and do probability equations on these and estimate stochastic variables. General competence The candidate: -can use mathematics, descriptive statistics and probability to understand calculations on measurement result and do presentation of these -have an understanding for mathematics and probability for later studies

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and excercises inclusive excercises using Excel. Total workload for each student will be about 200 hours. There will be about 80 Scheduled hours with lectures and exercises.

Mandatory requirementsmust be approved to be able to be elegible for the exam. Permitted aids on the exam: Approved calculator:HP30S, Citizen SR270, Citizen SR270X, Casio fx-82/83ES, Casio fx-82ES PLUS, MATH MI-633 DOT MATRIX DISPLAY, Texas BAII Plus, Casio fx-82-MS, Aurora Scientific Calculator fc582, Texas TI30XIIB/S og Casio fx-82 EX. Gyldendals formelsamling i matematikk or equivalent. 2 sheet size A4 with notes. For applications for credits, approval and integration of courses from previous years or other institutions' equivalent, each application will be evaluated individually. A reduction of credits might apply if the candidate has passed exams in overlapping courses. New/postponed exam: August.

New/postponed exam may be arranged as an oral exam, if decided so by the course responsible.

This course is restricted and reserved for registered students in the Bachelor program in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, Trondheim.
