Course content
The seminar will be given in autumn provided a sufficient number of students is enrolled or at the discretion of the lecturers.
The seminar covers research methods relevant for the given cohort covering qualitative and quantitative methods at a level relevant for research required to adapt and extend research methods
Learning outcome
After having successfully completed the course, students are expected to have mastered the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge
- The seminar introduces selected research methods and problems related to their area of study, also identifying problematic areas and misconceptions. The exact topics are to be chosen each semester the course is offered depending on the profile and research topics of the participants.
Skills
- Ability to select and adapt research methods and techniques suitable for the candidate's research field
General competence
- Capability to critique the use of research methods and their limitations in the research of both the participants and in the literature.
Learning methods and activities
Block seminars and project work.
Compulsory requirements: None
Students must comply with all NTNU regulations on aids and materials and must prepare their papers individually.
Further on evaluation
Re-sit: Whole course must be re-taken.
Students are to write an individual essay based on questions posed in advance, submission should occur at the same time.
Participants must prepare a research survey article on a topic related to one of the research methods deemed most pertinent to their field of research.
